Privacy Policy

What Uplid does with your data. The answer is nothing. It talks only to your Mac.

The short version

Uplid collects no data at all. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The app connects straight from your device to the Mac you choose, with no server of ours in between, and your Mac passwords stay in the Keychain of your device.

Who is responsible

Uplid is published by Navid Gooran (Applestan), who is the data controller for the app.

The connection to your Mac

Uplid uses the Screen Sharing that is built into macOS. When you connect, the picture of your Mac comes to your device, and your typing, clicks and touches go to the Mac. This goes directly between your device and your Mac over your own network, or over your own VPN when you are away from home.

  • The picture of your Mac is shown and then thrown away. Uplid does not record it or save it
  • Uplid asks the Mac to encrypt the whole session. If a Mac does not, the app tells you, so you can decide whether to use that network
  • Nothing from the session is sent to us or to anyone else

What Uplid stores, and where

Only what it needs to connect again, and only on your device:

  • Your Macs: the name you gave each one, its network address, the name of your account on it and when you last connected. This is a small file in the app's own storage, protected by iOS while your device is locked
  • Your Mac passwords, if you choose to save them: in the iOS Keychain, on this device only. They are never synced to iCloud and never leave the device, apart from the login to that same Mac
  • Your settings, such as tracking speed and keyboard layout

Deleting a Mac in the app deletes its saved password. Deleting the app deletes the rest.

Face ID and Touch ID

Saved passwords can be locked behind Face ID or Touch ID. iOS checks your face or finger, and Uplid only learns whether the check passed. The app never sees biometric data. You can switch this off in Settings.

The clipboard

With Share the clipboard on, which is the default, text you copy on the Mac comes to the clipboard of your device, and text on your device goes to the Mac when you paste there. It only happens while you are connected, and only between your device and your Mac. Switch it off in Settings if you would rather keep the two clipboards apart.

Permissions

  • Local Network, to find the Macs on your network that have Screen Sharing turned on, and to connect to them
  • Face ID, only if you lock your saved passwords with it

Uplid does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.

Buying Pro

Uplid is free to download. Pro is a single optional in-app purchase, with no subscription. Apple handles the payment completely. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account. The app reads Apple's record of the purchase on the device to know whether Pro is unlocked.

No third parties

The app contains no advertising software, no analytics service and no third-party software development kit. Apart from your Mac and Apple's App Store for the purchase, it connects to nothing.

Crash reports from Apple

If you turn on Share With App Developers in the iOS Settings app, Apple may give us crash reports and basic usage data for Uplid. Apple collects and provides that data under Apple's privacy policy, and it does not identify you to us. You can turn it off at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Children

Uplid is a tool for a general audience. It is not directed at children, and it collects nothing that identifies a user of any age.

Your rights

Since we hold no personal data about you, there is no account or record for us to look up, correct or delete. You still have the right under the GDPR to ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction of processing, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Email the address above and we will answer within a month. You can also complain to a data protection authority, in particular in the country where you live or work.

To remove everything Uplid holds, delete the app.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Uplid ever sends anything anywhere other than your own Mac, this page and the App Store privacy label get updated before that version ships, and the date below changes with it.

Summary: Uplid collects no data. It connects only to the Macs you choose, and your Mac passwords stay in the Keychain of your device.
