Frequently Asked Questions
What is a CBZ file?
A CBZ file is a comic book archive in ZIP format. It's just a regular ZIP file with a .cbz extension, containing image files (usually JPEG or PNG) that represent each page of the comic. Comic reader apps display these pages in order so you can read through them like a real book.
Why doesn't this support CBR/RAR files?
CBR files use the RAR compression format, which requires a specialized decoding library that's much larger than what ZIP needs. To keep this tool fast and lightweight, it only supports ZIP-based formats (CBZ and ZIP). Most comic sources offer CBZ as an option, and you can convert CBR to CBZ with free desktop tools.
Is my comic file uploaded to a server?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device. The ZIP parsing and image analysis all happen locally. No data is sent anywhere, and nothing is stored.
What can I learn from inspecting a comic file?
You can see the page count, each page's resolution and file size, what image format the pages use (JPEG, PNG, etc.), and the total size of all images when uncompressed. This is useful for checking if a file is corrupt, comparing quality between different sources, or estimating how much storage a comic collection needs.
